FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

When do the awards start? We hold the awards annually, but the date nominations open varies year on year. Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Wattpad to stay updated!

How do I enter my book? When nominations open, ask your readers to nominate your book in our awards! We then count and weight the nominations (which boosts undiscovered authors). The top 15 books will go through to the voting round, where they will have the chance to win a Fiction Award!

Where can my readers nominate for me? When nominations are open, readers can nominate you in our book entitled 'The Fiction Awards (the current year)' under the story part listing the relevant category.

Does my book have to be complete? Nope! We allow finished and unfinished projects alike to be entered.

How many times can I nominate in the nominations stage? You can nominate as many books as you like in as many categories as you want, but you can't nominate the same book in the same category more than once. (1 nomination per book per category.)

What happens if I get nominated? You go through to the voting round in which readers get to vote for their faves, and the top 3 books in each category win a Fiction Award!

My book has more votes than another but that book got an award and I didn't. Is this a mistake? Being in the top 3 most voted for does not guarantee an award, however, it massively boosts your chances. In essence, the more votes a book has, the more likely it is to win! (We factor in other data, as well as level the playing field for undiscovered authors.) Yet, if you feel as though a mistake has been made, please reach out to us on Wattpad or Twitter. We are human and mistakes can be made! (We request that only authors of nominated books get in touch, not their readers. Thank you.)

Am I allowed to ask my readers to nominate and vote for me? Yes! In fact, we encourage it! However, there are three key limitations to be aware of: (1) authors cannot exchange nominations/votes (e.g. "I'll nominate you if you nominate me" agreements are disallowed), (2) authors cannot ask users directly to vote or nominate them (e.g. posting on other user's message boards or messaging them violates our participation terms) and (3) authors cannot offer monetary rewards in exchange for nominations/votes (e.g. offering the chance for readers to win gift cards is not allowed). If an author breaks these rules, we ask that you report this issue to us here.

How many times can I vote in the voting stage? Voting is unlimited! You can vote as many times you like, even on the same book. There are no limits.

How can I compete against super popular authors? We are aware it is much harder for undiscovered authors to match the number of votes and nominations that well established writers have. Thus, we have devised a system which levels the playing field, making it possible undiscovered authors to win.

Are The Fiction Awards ran by Wattpad HQ? Nope. We are ran by fellow Wattpad users like you.

Can 'The Team' influence the result? We cannot! All of the winners are selected via data and nominees are chosen purely on the number of nominations. There is no 'judging' done. We mean it when we say our winners are the "People's Choice"!

Can I join 'The Team'? We usually hold applications every awards' cycle. Watch our Wattpad profile to see when/if we launch applications for next year.

How can someone cheat in nominations and how can I report it? Users cannot create multiple accounts in order to nominate themselves or someone else. If you believe someone is doing so, please fill out this form with the details and we will investigate it further. Once reported, we kindly ask that you let us do our thing by stepping away from the situation as we get out our magnifying glass and do some digging!

What happens if a user is cheating? If we can verify malpractice, the nominations made by the accounts in question will be made invalid. Depending on the details of the case, further action may be taken. The moral of the story: don't cheat!
